When a parent of a child with special needs pointed out to Mary Gallant that there was a big need in her community that her tiny horses could fill, Mary promised that she would see what she could do.
Mary went to Edmonton, Alberta, and obtained her certification in "Equine Guided Activities & Therapy Assisted Programs", at Hearts and Hooves at the Blackwater Ridge Farm. She returned home full of enthusiasm and went right to work!
M&M Lucky Hooves is a non-profit organization that has been formed to promote the love and awareness of Miniature Horses, and to share with others their many uses for therapeutic healing with the "Gentle Life Skills Program" in the community.
This involves bringing the horses into senior care facilities, hospitals, schools for the special needs, to the homes of learning and physically disabled individuals, and anywhere that therapeutic healing will benefit those in need.
We also facilitate day programs at the farm for people of all ages who can benefit from learning through the love of a miniature horse.
These programs are oriented towards teaching Life Skills by learning to care for the horses and fostering Community Involvement by involving the participants in facilitating visitations.
These encounters bring humans and horses together in a magical way.
Situated on 5 acres of lush pasture land, M&M Lucky Hooves is based in Bloomfield on the "Gentle Island" of Prince Edward Island, Canada.
